On Wednesday 12 February, the NIDI-NVD Master Thesis Award 2025 was awarded to Isabell Schuler<\/strong>, for her thesis titled “Marriage and the Mental Health of Sexual Orientation Minorities<\/strong>“. Isabel wrote her thesis at the University of Groningen as a student of the Master Population Studies. Her supervisor was dr. Tobias Vogt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The jury wrote the following about the thesis: “This paper shows the breadth of demography, adapting theories and methods used in demography in novel ways. The\u00a0thesis\u00a0is clearly written, well-grounded in the literature, and incorporates many strategies in presenting the findings. The author applied broader theories about mental health and marriage in novel ways to examine the wellbeing of a specific group. She applies strong analysis and generates interesting findings, for example, pointing out an interesting trend that favourable trends seem especially beneficial for people who are in a less advantaged position.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
