Nederlandse Demografieweek 2020

The Netherlands Demographic Society (NVD) invites you to join the first edition of the Dutch Demography Week. This digital conference replaces the 13th edition of the Dutch Demography Day.

The conference takes place from Monday 16 till Friday 20 November 2020. Activities take place every day between 13:00 and 15:00h, with exception of Wednesday the 18th. For more details, see the preliminary programma and session overview below.

At this conference the most recent findings in the field of population studies will be presented, including family and fertility, migrants and migration, health, mortality and longevity, population ageing, population growth and decline, and urbanization.

Call for Abstracts/Proposals

Abstracts from a wide variety of disciplines including sociology, economy, health, history and planning are invited. Abstracts (max 300 words) can be submitted here until Friday 18 September 2020. Authors will be informed early October whether their abstract has been accepted for presentation in one of the parallel sessions.

At DDW 2020 other formats than sessions, such as workshops, panel discussions and the like are invited. Write us ( if you have a proposal (300 words) for a 60 or 90 minute time slot (3 or 4 presentations).


NIDI-NVD Master Thesis Award 2020
This Award honors the best Master Thesis in Population Studies in the Netherlands. Jointly sponsored by the NVD and the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI), the Award carries a certificate and a €500 prize. Master theses can be submitted until 16 October 2020 at Before you submit, please check the rules of play.

Population Video Award 2020

This contest is organized by the NVD to raise population awareness and engage high school students in population issues. High school students are challenged to share their views on key demographic issues through short, creative videos. At the Dutch Demography Week 2020, the three best videos will be shown to the conference participants and awarded with a prize. For more information (in Dutch only), click here.


The event is free of charge this year. Participation is not possible without registering. Please register here before 8 November 2020. You will receive the details of the digital conference some time after your registration.
